Prairie Dog Action is a local, all volunteer non-profit
organization dedicated to conservaton of the prairie dog and their habitat. We have been working together as an organization
since 2000 (many of our members and board members have been working on prairie conservation efforts even longer). We have
worked with many local governments, statewide agencies and federal agencies toward conservation and preservation of prairie
dogs and their native habbitat. We were also a founding member of the Prairie Dog Coalition and continue our support of their
endeavors.
We are an organizaton that believes
by saving this keystone species, we will provide food and habitat for the countless other species that are dependent on prairie
dogs for their survival. Some of the animals depend on prairie dogs directly and some have more of an indirect association
with prairie dogs. Whatever their association, we knew early on that the most efficient use of our time, talents, money, and
efforts was to save the single species that seemed to support so many others. BY SAVING THE PRAIRIE DOG, WE SAVE THE PRAIRIE!
We have performed countless relocations of local (and some not so local)
prairie dogs to safe areas of open space or wildlife sanctuaries. To date, we have moved thousands of prairie dogs who are
living out their lives in areas of relative safety from man. However, all of these animals are at the mercy of each government
agency overseeing the very land they live upon. We must remain diligent in our efforts to remind these individuals of their
responsibility to protect and preserve our local and national wildlife habitat for future generations. We believe, "where
there is a will there is a way."
Prairie
Dog Action volunteers are always ready to take advantage of educational opportunities. We have enjoyed going into schools
or working with children through other organizations like the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. Many of us make sure to educate
just about anyone and everyone we come across. As an organization, we believe in moving one small pebble at a time. We would
love to move mountains, but sometimes you have to start with the pebbles.
We also encourage all our members to make sure their voice is heard, loud and clear (write letters,
make phone calls). For positive change to happen, you have to make sure you are heard!
Come join us today! We are always welcoming new volunteers and new talents (there is
always something YOU can do). We have a huge job ahead of us and our numbers need to grow stronger.
